Well, that's it. The Christmas Break has ended and the real world returns. Despite the incredible cold snap we suffered through, I'm getting a number of things set up in order to move into some increased volume. My New Year's Eve training streak continued with one of my favorite runs of the year and hope it will be a sign that I am able to recapture my running consistency from a few years ago. It was just over 9 km, but had ten hill repeats of the hill pictured to the left. Crisp weather, no wind and zero traffic made it an incredibly peaceful experience. I also felt stronger as the run continued. A feeling I haven't experienced in a while, but the mileage for my marathon training is slowly growing.
The cold weather kept the rest of my training inside, but it did allow me to add some tech to my bike that should motivate me to stay consistent on the trainer as well. A new Speed and Cadence monitor reminded me that my last two training sessions on the bike were not as intense as they should have been. It also opened the door for me to try Zwift out, which is a goal for this week.
The week was the best I could pull off with the weather, travel and holidays, but I happy enough with the work.
One outdoor run, 9k with hill repeats,
One treadmill run, 35 minutes, base HR Zone 2
Three trainer rides 2 1/2 hours total. One Carmichael video, one spin class, one ride while I setup up new Speed/Cadence monitor
This week, I'll be into the routine, balancing work, family and training. A little time in the pool, but continued focus on the run and bike. Hope you are out there as well.
