Welcome to the Mile 20 Blog!

Hello readers. My name is Gord, a middle of the pack endurance athlete, fitness and lifestyle coach, high school teacher and coach living in Southern Ontario Canada. I've decided to try to find ways to keep myself on track with my own fitness goals, attempt to add another element to my fitness business and find another way to help people reach their health and fitness goals. I'm hoping this blog can give people (and myself for that matter) a reminder that there are a lot of ways to be successful in your quest for good health, be bold to chase your athletic goals and enjoy the process of living a healthy life.

Mile 20 Fitness

My goals have always revolved around long distance endurance events. I fell in love with triathlon more than twenty years ago. I moved from Sprint to Olympic to Half Iron Distance to eventually completing four Ironman triathlons while also competing in running races. I enjoyed the process of training more than the racing, but I have noticed that without the race on the calendar to focus on, my consistency in training varies and when I am not consistent, little injuries flare up. My goal this year is to register as early as possible for the races, and stay on top of the training that I love.

The racing year will start with a spring half marathon or marathon. I haven't decided whether I will be able to commit the time to be ready for a marathon, and have given myself until the end of this year to make the decision. If I can keep my mileage up as we head into the new year, I believe I can be ready for the spring race. If not, I will look for a half or two to run. A solid winter of triathlon training, with a running focus of course, should put me in a good spot for a summer of triathlon, book ended with a couple of long course races in the Niagara Region. This framework will also allow me to not sacrifice a lot of family time as it keep the summer open for our family vacations

The Wrap-up

That's it in a nut shell. I'm hoping to stay consistent with my training and this blog. There will be times when I discuss my training, times I talk about general training topics and other times I discuss things that are going on in the endurance world. If you are striving towards some of your own athletic goals, don't hesitate to reach out. I love to hear what other people are doing and what drives them so don't hesitate to comment below or check out my site anytime, mile20fitness.com
